A Yankee editor thus silences the tongue of scandal:—"There are strange rumors going about to the effect that one of our highly respectable citizens has lately left the town in company with a young lady twenty-two years of age. It is said they went to Boston. There has been quite a considerable amount of gossip about the affair, which we deem entirely out of place, as we learn from authentic sources that the gent eman was an undertaker and the lady was flead. The most appaling case of deafness that we ever came across outside of an asylum was that of an old lady who lives across the street from the arsenal yard. On the Queen's birthday they fired a salute of twenty-one guns, The old lady was ob. served to start and listen when the last gun was fired, and then she exclaimed, " Come in !"
