BLACK'S,

There is not much news to report from this place concerning mining interests, at present those engaged have plenty of water and are busily employed, I am sorry to say that the head race for flushing the sludge channel is completely stopped, as it must come through Mr. Low’s pre-emptive right, and no arrangements have been come to with him concerning the same. A petition is brim; numerously signed to be sent to the Government praying them to give him another right; if the petition is not granted, all the labor and expanse of catting this channel will be thrown away, so that it is to be hopen the Government will accede to the petition. A directing post is much needed at the lower crossing of the river, a gentleman coming from Clyde the other evening had a narrow escape from drowning, the night being dark and the outlet being not well defined, he was sometime in the river before he could find his way out.

The road between the Spotte-lmrn and Chatto Creek is badly in want of repair, in fact, it is more like a ploughed field than anything else, not a han; has been employed upon it for the last six months. It look* very much like neglect on the part of the road engineer, or rather tue Government in not finding funds to pay more men than are employe , there are plenty of men knocking about who would gladly take a job, and this road would employ a good many to put it in proper repair. There is a great deal of traffic between Black’s and the farms at Tiger-hill, independent of the regular road traffic. The claims on the sides of the drainage channel were balloted for last week, the winners to keep the channel clear. Cropping the land and fencing actively pursued, and nearly all the crops are sown.
