[The following Reports of Select Committees on Petitions from the Mayor and Council of Cromwell, presented to the House of Representatives by Mr, Charles O’Neill, Member for the Goldfields, during the present Session, has been kiu lly handed to us for publication. ] R E PORT OF PC Hue 'PETITIONS COMMITTEE. “The Petitioners are the Mayor and Councillors of the Incorporate I Town of Cromwell. They pray that the House will be pleased to cause a sum of money to ho placed on the estimates for the purpose of erecting a suitable building for a Postoffice, Telegraph-office, and Savings Rank office in the town of Cromwell. “ 1 am directed to report that it rests with the Executive of the Colony to dis-po-e of the question raised in the Petition, and, consequently, the Committee declines to offer any opinion to the House upon the subject. “J. CRACROFT WILSON, C.8., “ Chairman. “CthJuly. 1870.” REPORT • OF THE SELECT COMMITTEE ON GOLDFIELDS BILLS & PETITIONS. “The Select Committee on Goldfields Bills and Petitions, to whom was referred a Petition from the Mayor and Corporation of Cromwell, Otago, praying for a grant in aid of supplying water to the Goldfields, have the honor to report that having taken into consideration the said Petition, and recognising the necessity of immediate attention being given to the subject matter of the Petition, recommend to the Government that they should this Session carry out, as far as possible, on the Goldfields of the Colony, the proposals already submitted to the Legislature, having reference to the Goldfiel Is water supply. “D F. REPORT OP JOINT COMMITTEE on WASTE LANDS, “ The Joint Committee appointed to consider all Bills and Petitions affecting Waste Lands of the Crown have the honor to report that they have adopted the following resolution, viz., That the Petition of the Mayor and Council op Cromwell is a matter for the consideration of the Provincial Government of Otago, and that in the Opinion of the Committee, grievances of the nature complained of by the Petitioners Would not have arisen had the Provincial Executive put the various existing Acts affecting the Waste Lands of Otago into operation, “ALFRED DOMETT, " Chairman. •■29 th July, 1870.”
