ALEXANDRA

(from a correspondent.) July 27. The Molynenx is retiring to its Winter level, and most claims have again made a start. The dredges the will not be enabled to commence until the latter end of the coinin' week. The Hit or Miss have got things all righted, and will be oh the wash-dirt in a few. days. Kelt and party have made a commencement at the Half-Mile Beach. This company have, I am sorry to say, lost a considerable amount of plant by the past flood, but the manager has again got every thing in good order, and I trust theirplncky speculations will far exceed their most sanguine expectations. At Poverty Beach Noble and party have st 'rted, also Roberts Young and party. From both their claims good prospects have been obtained and a great amount of ground has bee ■ stripped. The M anuherikia GrouudSluicing Company are about to sink for the main bottom in one of the cntsthey have run off and cleared. Great interest is felt as to the resulh At Butcher’s Point, Anderson and party are repairing damages to dam belonging to the Imperial Pluming Company to start their claim with a full complement of hands immediately the necessary repairs are affected. The Ida Yalley Race has been leased for three years to Mr. Low of the Galloway Station. A Branch Race has been carried on to some gnu d aken up on the Mauuherikia River by Macnamara and Company. Also a Party at Blacks No. 3 are cutting in a race beside the party at work there formerly. This with the three heads rented by Blackwell and party will take all the Water that the main race can supply and as the price paid is£4 per Government head, there is no doubt but that the lessee will be wall paid for hi< speculation. A 1 though it is very doubtful if there is any great amount of sluicing ground in the district that can pay such an exorbitant price tor water; yet in this part of the District of the Gold Fields, could an adequate and cheap supply of water Joe brought in, there is no doubt but that many shveiug claims would bo taken up, as Cold if known to exist in paying quantities in many of the made hills and terraces, but water must be cheap and plentiful The claim belonging to Blackwell and party is being vigorously worked, A large amount of blasting is being done, as the company have ceased sluicing for the past fortnight for the purpose of cutting up their ground ditches, and as tills has to be done, in many instances, through fifteen or sixteen feet of rock, a large expenditure of time and money is required, and great credit is due to the manager for the able manner in which he is carrying on the works, At a short distance from the moral Hotel, Mr. Duncan has had, for the past four weeks, some eight men engaged in cutting a channel, so as to divert the present flow of the Manuherikia River into its old course The cutting is now complete and the men are no™ engaged in erecting a substantial dam. The hotel, stockyards, and stables have at each of the late floods been in imminent danger of being washed away, so mine host thinks it high time to do battle with the troubled waters,
