LOCAL AND GENERAL.
The nomination for Councillors and Auditors for the Municipality of Clyde will take place on Wednesday next, the 27th inst., and for the Municipality of Alexandra on the same dty. Our Dnn’edin correspondent sends us the following telegram : The Government financial propositions were carried without division. We aie informed, through the courtesy of the Postmaster at Clyde, that tire English mail, via San Francisco, closes at his office on Thursday, the 28th inst., at 10 o’clock p.m. Information reached us yesterday of a severe accident happening to a young man named Keeler whilst engadcd in blasting away rook in the construction ofa tail-race in Black wel I’s claim Manuherikia Gorge. With the exact particulars on the virtue of the jiijuiy received, we were not informed, but we believe the poor fellow is severely hurt. He was removed with all despatch to the Hospital. In reply to a letter from the Alexandra Town Council, to the Chief Commissioner of Waste Lands, it is notified that in future the upset price of sections floating the main street will be £5 and for back sections £2 each. In another column it will be seen that a meeting of the members of che Dunstan Jockey Club will take place this (Friday) evening, for the purpose of electing a Committee for the ensuing year. By reference to advertisement it will be seen that a lecture will be delivered by Yincent Pyke, Esq., R M., at Black’s, on Thursday evening next, in aid of the Black’s School Funds. The subject is, “Anight with Charles Dickens.” The Wellington Independent says : “We have been requested to state, ou very good authority, that there is no truth in the statement made hy the Bruce Herald that Mr Macandrew is to be appointed Immigration Agent under the General Government.
