Gentlemen, — I BEG to tender to you my sincere and heartfelt thanks for the great honor you have this day conferred upon me, by returning me as Mayor of Cromwell, and by the very large majority of seventeen votes. I assure you that it shall be my most earnest endeavour to prove myself worthy of the confidence you have placed in me, and that, at all times, and at all seasons nothing shall be wanting on my part to promote the welfare of my fellow citizens, so that at the close of my term of office I may still retain that confidence of my fellow men of which to-day I have had such ample proof. It will be my constant aim to promote the interests of Cromwell and the district generally, to encourage a full but dispassionate discussion on all matters pertaining to the interests of the many, and to maintain a sti'ict impartiality on all matters touching the public weal. Trusting that at the expiration of the Municipal Year I shall find myself still in the possession of your -confidence,
