ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Connell took plane on Friday evening last. Present : The Mayor ami Councillors milhouse and Beresford. The minutes of the last meeting -were read and confirmed. The Town Clerk read the fourteenth report of the Public Works Committee. Tier report recommended that a drain he ent on the nnpor side of MnUingar-streot. from the rock behind Mr. Beresford’s stables to the main channel above Mr. Charnock’s premises, for the purpose of carrying off the storm-water a:.d to supply water in case of fire ; and aho a drain he cut from the other side o c the rock to the hank of the Manuherikia. The Committee further recommended that seven four-hundred-gallon tanks he placed in convenient situations, such tanks f o he kept filled and each provided with a large tap and four backets’ the water only to he used in the event of fire. The report was adopted. A report on the pig nuisance was then read, recommending that all persons keeping pigs he ordered to remove them to a piece of ground near Butler’s Point, facing the Manuherikia River. It was stated that the site, while convenient was re* moved from view, would meet all require meats, and furthermore was out of the 'fife of the prevailing winds. After soinCdiscussion, it was resolved, That the v„, recommended he used hy the inhabitants of the Manuherikia War I, and that owners of pigs resident in the Clutiia Ward he ordered to remove them to the old lower street. The Town Clerk was instructed to give notice to oil owners to remove their pigs to the sites indicated within fourteen days. The business being concluded, the Council separate i af er passing the usual vole of thanks to the chair.
