BENDIGO GULLY.
(from our own correspondent.)
Feb. 2S,
Nothing of great importance lias occurred during the past week, matters on the whole being rather dull, partly owing I believe to the absence of the major part of our population at the Clyde Race-meeting, they are now returning, so we may expect the place to resume its ordinary activity in due course.
Thelatd dry weather seriously affected our water supply, gloomy apprehensions of dried up races and a general stoppage of crushing operations’pervaded the mini's of shareholders, but a timely rainfall yesterday dispelled all such unpleasant visions, and the disintegrating process goes on merrily at both mills. The Cromwell Com pany Wash up to day to clear the battery for the trial crushing of the stone from the Garrick Range, I have seen some of this stone and am inclined to predict a yield of about six ounces per ton, the quantity to be tested is only six tons, the result will soon be known. The ** Aurora Company are prosecuting work with great vigor, the reef has not yet been struck in their tunnel, which is now driven towards the deep shaft, a distance of about 330 feet, but it is just possible that they may he driving parallel to the lode without being aware of the fact, cress drives w ill seen Inwtvf

Your valuable journal [has not delighted its readers in this place as usual, from the simple fact of its being invisible, I enquired ‘everywhere, ljbut could noli obtain a copy, I suppose I may lay it to the account of your celleient postal arrangements than which no greater hiiinbl g exists, when will they be altered is thli universal cry, and I do hope>ome vigorous action shortly may be taken to alter andi amend the institution, which as far as Epistolary transmission is concerned, is but “ a delusion and a snare.” I Tucsoay Evening. I have just learned that the yield from the Garrick Ranges stone is eight ounces to the ton. '
