CHURCH OF ENGLAND.

A in noting of gentlemen interested in the Church of England was hold in the Church building on Tuesday evening last, for the purpose of taking into consideration the urgent necessity of obtaining the ser- ML vices of an Ordained Clergyman for the Dunstan District. Vincent Fyke, Esq,, occupied the chair, and the following gentlemen were present, viz., Messrs. Cambridge, Ings, Christophers, Barlow, Hueston, Faoho. Richards, Wells, Marshall, Auckland, Dr. Burrows, and others. Vincent Pyke, Esq., the Chairman, and President of the Church of England Committee, said that the object of the meeting, as one and -ill knew, was to devise moans by which the services of a clergyman of the Church of England might be obtained for the district. He (the Chairman) had not the least hesitation in saying that, if the people put their shout ers to the wheel, success would he the result. One great difficulty had always attended similar efforts of the Committee flint was the payment of t'loo passage-money. He believed that difficulty did not now exist. There were nlenty of clergymen in the colonies, and if advertisements were put newspapers there would bo plenty of applications for the cure, and we should thus save, not on’y the *IOO passage-money, but also the time that must nece sarilv elapse were we to write to the home country. Zeal only was required, and if those present did but act with a will and with unanimity they were bnun ! to succeed. If the Lakes Committee were able to collect £>JOO f<.r Church purposes, surely the Dunstan District, which includes Clyde, Alexandra, Cromwell and Blacks, should have no difficulty in raising the Minister’s stipend. Mr. Pyke concluded his remarks by suggesting hat a working commi'tce be formed, and that they at cnee set to w irk to carrv out the object ef the meeting Mr. R. Several other gentlemen havin ’ spoken, ; it was rasoß-ed, that in the oninion of this meeting, it is desirable to obtain the services i f a Clergyman of the Church ef England for the Dnnstan district.
