Lord Napier oir Magdala will succeed Sir Wiliiam Mansfield as commander-in-chief of the army in India. Wubjx the reductions in.the army take place in April, it ia understood to be the intention of the authorities to distribute a number of unattached lieutenant-eoloneloie3 and majorities. A feeling of disappointment prevails in the profession, in consequence of a rumour that the Boheme of naval retirement, propounded by Mr. Childers with the sanction of hia colleagues, had not met with the approbation of the Treasury, on account of the largeness of the sum (exoeeding .£1,250,000) required to oarry it into execution.
