MABSH. Kitchen- Caddex.— Instead of neglecting the garden, as is too often the case at this season, it ought to get a thorough cleaning, and every vacant space should he dug up to the action of the weather. The looser the ground is kept the better it will resist the effects of drought, and rain will be rea >ily ahsorded. Take up potatoes as they ripen, f»r if left too long in the ground they are apt to moke a second growth, which would prove injurious. Celery will now require strict attention as to watering and landing up. Onions, for early drawing. may now he sown. Sow cabbages, both early and late ; also savoy, curled greens, pickling cabbage, cauliflower, lettuce, and radish. The growth of the cabbage tribe will be hastened by a light top dressing of Peruvian guano heing'applied between the rows and ralce' in with the dung hawk which, by-the-hye, is one of the most useful tools in the garden. Take up and dry onions previous to storing. F»uit Oarpkn'.— Prepare ground for strawberries by digging and suhsoiling to a depth of at least two feet ; and, after a pood fall of vain, select the best rooted ninn*rs from fruitful plants and set in threes, in the form of a diamond, two feet three inches between the rows, and fifteen inches in the rows. Remove the runners from established beds, and keep alt free from weeds. Gn'hir and store apples juv l pears as they ripen, and avoid bminim! them. Flower Gaums*.—All dormant bnlbs should now be planted ; they thrive best in adee-isandysoil, and ground notnatnrally so ought to be worked very deep—applying at the same time a good deal of well decomposed manure, and, on clay soils, arid a rood deal of sand to the dressing. Sec that the propagation of young stock ia attended to as recommended for last month Gather flower seeds as tbev ripen : rnmnye decayed flowers, and ke»p the pardon perfectly free from weeds and decayed haulms ; as the beauty of flowers is greatly enhanced hy keeping the ground and paths about them scrupulously clean and ti-'y.
