CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly‘meeting of the Town Council was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last. Present: Councillors Clark (in the chair), Hucston, Patterson, Naylor, Hastie, and Johnson. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following letters were read and received : From Mr. Over, asking payment of the balance of contract money for building the Town Hail. From Mr. Tyrrell applying for permission to take water from the Town Race for gardening purposes. From Mr. 'Westwood, requesting the same. From Mr. A. Moore, asking leave to place a horse post in front, of his hole l . From the Secretary of the Court Star of Dunstan, Ancient Order of Foresters, requesting permission to use the Town Hall, on the 9th of November, for their Anniversary Ball. From the Town Clerk of Lawrence, requesting the co- 1 peration of the Council in their ende ivor to obtain a reduction in the high rate of charges for telegraphic communication.
f the Inspector of Nuisances, drawing attention to the fact of slaughtering being carried on within the town, and suggesting that the Council take steps to canse its discontinuance.
The outward correspondence .was read an I adopted. Proposed by Councillor Hastia, seconded by Councillor Patterson, and carried, That the Council join with Lawrence in petitioning the Government for a reduction of t legraphic charges, and that the Town draw up a petition and forward the same Proposed by Councillor Patterson, secondly by Councillor Naylor, That the Town Clerk inform Messrs. Westwood and Tyrrell that the proper course for them to pursue is to send in another application. Carried. Propose ' by Councillor Johnson, seconded by Councillor Patterson, That the next meeting of the Council bo held in the new chamber in the Town Hall. Carried. The usual vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
