CROMWELL.

(from a correspondent.) In the Resident Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, the 13th instant, before V. Pyke, Esq., E.M and R. A. Louglman, Esq., J.P., a young man named Sutton was charged with stealing a Grey Mare, the property of J. L. Gillies, Esq., of Tokoma'riro; Mr. A Brough appeared for the accused. The evidence of Mr. Gillies, and Mrs A Box to whom the mare was sold being conclusive, the accused was committed for trial at the next Criminal Session ; no other business took the attention of the Bench. In the Warden’s Court, the only business transacted, was the receiving notices, and the granting of applications for mining leases, claims, Ac. Accounts from the Bannockburn, Gorge, Lowburn, Bendigo Gul'y and Luggatc are most satisfactory, (lie seasonable rains that have fallen of late having brought again to life that activity and confidence, the hitherto dry season had all but annihilated.

The agriculturists, who, as a class, are of great importance to the prosper!: y of the country, have also been much hone luted by the rainfall, and their hopes of a golden harvest proportionately raised. A goodly number of acres are under cultivation, and the crops above ground look remarkable lualthy. The reefs at Bendigo Gully continue to attract attention, and ere long, if the present prospects are maiiilaineu, our reefs will vie with any in the colony of New Zealand. Al o gether there a e nine claims taken up, and on two of them crushing apparatus has been erected. No definite news is to hand from the i 'inspectors in theMonutPlsa and Garrick Hanses, ! bat is no payable go'd has yet been struck, though the search is being prosecuted with great spirit. Our sporting friends are stirring themselves, and, from what I can glean, the annual r ices are to take place on Boxing-day, but I suppose you will be duly notified. •
