DUSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The monthly meeting of the Committee of the Dunstan District Hospital was held in the Council Chamber, Clyde on Monday evening la t the 4th instant. Present, Vincent Pykc, Eaq., President, and Messrs llazlett, Clark, Grin ley, Patterson, Facao, Beck, Marshall, Hueston, A. Christophers, (Honorary Treasurer) and R. Barlow, (Secretary). The minutes of the last monthly meeting held on the 7th October and of special meetings held on tho 10th, 17th, 22mi, and 2Sth were road and confirmed. Tho inward correspondence was read, ‘ and with the exception of Letter from Dr. Niven was receive 1. Propose ! by Mr. Grlndley and seconded by Mr. Faehe. That the Secretary be instructed to acknowledge with thanks letters from Dr Alexandra of Dune iiu respecting refractory ward, and letter from Mr. G. Mathews of Dune in concerning tho planting of trees. Carried. The outward correspondence was read and adopted. Proposed by Air Grindlcy, seconded by Mr. Patterson and carried, That the Secretary write to Dr. Niven, requesting him to vacate the private residence on or before the 7th instant, and that the Secretary be instructed to t dee possession on that date. The Visiting Committee’s report No.l. was read and received, but it was resolved that the suggestions contained therein do stand over till next monthly meeting. Vifiting Committee’s report, No. 2., rccommending payment of accounts amounting to £220 19s 3d. as follows—Salaries, £72 18 4, Provisions, wines and spirits, £76 3s 4d ; Garden, £6 Cs. ; Buildings, £33 14a fid ; Furnishings, £l7 8s 91. ; Fuel and light, L 4 Bs.; Stationery, &c, , f 0 10s, Sundries, £3 10s 4d.was read and adopted. The Treasurer's report, showing a balance in hand of £4 8s 3d) and Government subsidy due £B2l 3a 5d was real and received. The Secretary stated the average number of patients in the hospital for the month was sixteen anil a half. The sub-committee appointed to arrange for the management. f the Institution during the month stated that Dr. Thomson had undertaken tho duties at a salary at the rate of £450 per annum. The Secretary laid on the table a list of drags &c., furnish d to him by Dr. Thomson as being required by tho Institution, it was resolved
that Mr. M. Marshall, Chemist, be requested to obtain same through Messrs. Kcmpthorne Prosser & 00. of Dunedin.
The Secretary stated that I)r. Thomson had waited on him and asked permission to holt a post mortem examination on one Robert Fowler, a lunatic, who had died in the hospital ; a ilivision took place on the matter, during winch the Presi ent stated he had often considered the subject, ant hat written for the opinion of the Attorney General, it was ultimately agreed, that as the inquiry was necessary for scientific purposes, the reqfisst bo complied with. Mr. Christophers drew the attention of the Committee to the fact, that Mr. Grant, the contractor for the Surgeon’s private resilience had not ci mpleted the work according to specification, and thought that action shoul I be taken in the matter. Proposed by Mr. Christophers, seconded by Mr. Marshall, and carried, That the Clerk of (lie Works be requested to send in a written report.
Notice of motion by Mr, Ruestoii, That at the next meeting he would move, that in future all drugs &e. to he tendered for. The usual vote of thanks to the chair concluded tho meeting.
