ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortni'ditlv meeting of the Alexandra Town Con-mil was held in the Council Chamber, on Friday evenin'! last, at (be usual hour. Present : The Mayor and Councillors Eeresford, Theyors, and Ilillhonso.

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Outward correspondence was road and approved.

Memoran’nm from Inspector Percy, Dunedin, was real It stated that Sert'eant Thomson, Cly’e, have been appointed bv Government Inspector of weights and measures for the Dunstan’ district,, which included Alexandra, and could not. therefore, see tbo necessity of another for this place.

A letter was read from M-. Potts, manager of the Mannherikia Ground S’uicing Co , offering to give the town a supply of water for £2 per week—ten inches guagod without pressure.

The To—n Olerit was instructed to reu’y, and ask if (he Company would guarantee tins supp’v for fourteen years, if not. for what period.

The Ovens Water-race Co. offered to supply tbo Township for the sum of £5 per week. A letter was read from Paget and Milne, in reference to svorkings being carried too near their Coal Pit by the Mannherikia Ground Sluicing Co. The Town Clerk svas instructed to reply, and state that the Council could not interin (ho matter.

The Mayor stated that no nominations of candidates, in room of Mr. Jack, (resigned) had been lodged on the day appointed. He would therefore have to proceed, and ca’l on the citizens to fill the vacancy, as provided by the Ordinance for extraordinary vacancies.

The Town Clerk wasaccordingly instructed to give notice of day for nomination and election in the manner above described. The Town Clerk was instructed to invite applications for the office ot valuators, also to obtain cost in Dunedin of one, two, and three inch wrought-iron gas piping, &c.

The usual vote of thanks to tho Chair concluded the proceedings.
