RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Wednesday, September 1
(Before J. D. Foraud, Esq., J.P.)
Robert Henderson was charged, on the information of Andrew Thompson, Sergeant of Police, with having committed xvilful and corrupt perjury in a case heard in the Warden’s Court at Clyde on the pru' vious day, before Mr. Warden Pyko, The offence arose out of an action brought by one Dani 1 Moore against Henderson for the recovery of a share in the Garibaldi Dredge. Henderson defended the action on the ground that ho was only a working shareholder, and had no interest xvhatevcr in the dredge. It was proved, however, in the examination of James Cossaf, a baker, of Cromwell, that ho (Henderson) had bought from him, in October last, all his right and interest, which consisted of a half share, and a document was also found by Sergeant Thompson on the person of Henderson when being searched before his confinement in the Lock-up, when first given into custody by the Court on this charge, which plainly showed that Hend.rson had really purchased from Cossar, all Cossar’s interest in the dre Igo in question. Messrs Pykc and Loughmui proved to the
oath taken by the prisoner. Cossar proved the sale of his interest to the prisoner, and SeS’gekh't Thompson proved to the finding of the doouihent. The prisoner was fully committed for trial.
