REMOVAL OF OFFICIALS AT CROMWELL.
On the 29th nit, Mr. O’Neill, in moving the motion standing in his name, said that the inhabitants of Cromwell were greatly inconvenienced by the removal of the Gold Receiver, especially as the yield of gold in that district was increasing very largely. He would take that opportunity of stating that a very rich goldfield had been discovered there, where a party of four men had obtained £4,000 in eight weeks. The return was required by the Town Council of Crorawell, who would like to have some informa, tion on the subject. Motion made, and question put, ‘‘That there be laid on the table of this House, copies of all correspondence between the General Government and Mr. Warden Pyke relative to the removal from Cromwell of the Clerk and Gold Receiver. Also, copies of correspondence relative to the appoint ment and dismissal of a Clerk to the Bench at Cromwell, in the Province of Otago.
Motion agreed to. The House adjourned at twenty minutes to two o’clock a m.
