As per advertisement a second meeting of the gentlemen interested in the Dunstan •Spring R ice Meeting was held at Cox’s Port Phillip Hotel, on Monday evening last the 2nd. Air. James Ilazlett occupied the cb ir. The minutes of former meeting having been lead and confirmed the following officers were appointed, R. Barlow, Sec rotary, A. 'Christophers, Treasurer, Messrrs. H. Glassford, R. M‘Morran, Hazlett, Burke, and Cowan. Stewards. W. Grindley, Esq.,' Starter, and Y. Pyke, Esq , Judge. The programme (see advertisement)was then ai ranged. A. discussion arose whether professional jockeys should be allowed to ride during the meeting, it was ultimately resolved they be allowed but to carry a penalty ol seven pounds excepting for the Hurdle Race when the penalty be only four pounds. The date of meeting, Friday, September 3rd having been fixed upon and resolved that there shall be one booth to be publicly competed for at a date to bo hereafter named, the meeting separated.

Four hundred pound’ of stone from the Long Drive claim, on being crushed, yielded two thousand and thirty six ounces of retorted gold. Some of the stone was , reserved from the crushing on account of its marvellous richness. Fifteen days crushing yielded four thousand live hundred and seventy live ounces of gold. On Saturday and Monday last the Clyde Municipal elections were terminated, the result as a matter of course giving equal dissatisfaction and satisfaction to the contending parties. The number of gentlemen who presented themselves lor Councillors honors, shows that a deep interest is taken in local affairs; in all there were eleven candidates to fill four vacancies. At the close of the poll the following gentlemen were declared duly elected—Messrs Johnson and Patterson, West Ward ; Mr. Hueston South Ward, and Mr. Naylor, East Ward.
