Tfi;; elections for the Mu yoraltv in the various goldfields towns.ups have been decided, ami w.» think tli.it i:i all oases tlis citizens hj ive chosen wisely and well. That die advantages of the Municipal system of overnment are appreciated by the inhabitants of the goldfields townships there exists the most convincing proofs in the interest that is taken in the election of officers the promptitude with which the rates are paid, and the few appeals made against assessments, when there it every opportunity to do so At Ciytle, the election for Mayor was undisputed, the citizens had every confidence in Mr. J tines Hazlett, and jtilging by the progress made, a d the important public works co.-stracted during bis Mayoralty, the money of the rate-pay-ers could not bare been more judiciously and economically expended. At Alexandra, the choice has again fallen upon Mr. Robert Finlay, who is a veritable Whittington, being now for the tbiid time elected Mayor. At Cromwell, Mr. George Wellington Goodger lias been elected by a large majority over bis opponent, Mr. David Booth. Of all the men that Cromwell should desire to honor, it is Mr. Goodger, bis untiring perseverance has satisfactorily proved that Quartz Mining in Otago will become one of our most permanent and valuable industries, while bis success at no distant date promises to make the Municipality of which he is the chosen head one of the most flourishing upon the goldfields. Queenstown has elected Mr. Benclix Hallenstein a its chief and here again the selection has been a wise one, the large interest which Mr Hallenstein holds not only in the town, but throughout the L ikes district generally, is a sufficient guarantee that ho will do his utmost to promote its prosperity. Lawrence again rejoices in Mr. lor i so Bastings as its f • " .whi •’ üboman 1. 1; Id that office «v< r sunea iii u hdwri became a M imicip.ili ty, of course, we need scarcely mention that Lawrence
