ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held in the Council Chamber, on Friday evening, the 4th inst. Present: the Mayor, and Councillors Hillhouse, Bercsford, and Theyers.

The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Outward corre-pondence read and approved.

Inward correspondence read and received. A letter was read from W. Fraser, Esq., M.P.C.,in reply to communication relative to subsidy of £2 to £ 1 on rates. It stated that he and other up-country members had done their utmost to got this amount of subsidy continued, hut were unable, the foehng of the House being against giving more than the Ordinance provided for. A letter was read from Law, Sonmcr, and Co., Dunedin 1 , relative to quicks for Cemetery fence. The Town Clerk was instructed to reply and order them up at once, as also to get the ground trenched and manured in readiness to receive the plants I on arrival. ■

A report of the Inspector 6f Nuisances was read and received. The Town Clerk was instructed to write the Inspector, and instruct him to 1 take steps in accordance with Byo La.v No. 4 of the Corporation, to have the nuisances complained of abated.

Accounts to the amount of £GS Os. Sd. were passed for payment; On the motion of Cr. Thoyers, seconded byCr. Hillhouse, the Town Clerk was instructed to write to Messrs. Chaplin and Co., and call their attention to the piece of road recently constructed, specially to avoid the fords at Low’s and Robertson’s crossings, and to rcspectfuilyvequestthem, if possible,’ to continue running their coaches through Alexandra, as usual, during the Winter months.

On the motion of Cr. Theyers, seconded by Cr. Beresford. it was resolved to have finger posts pint up at both junctions of the-' new road.
