CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.

A meeting of the Clyde Town Couu'vT was held in the Council Chambers on Wednesday evening last the Ifth instant.

Present, J. Iladett Esq, Mayor, and Councillors Cambridge, Patterson, Hastie, and Clark.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

A letter was read from the Town Clerk, Lawrence, enclosing copy resolu.ion passed by the Lawrence Council in rcfe-enco to a continuation of £2 to £1 snb-idy,

The remainder of the itwirl and the outward correspon ence was read and received.

Acoeunls .mounting to £IS7 9s. lid. were passed for payment. Messrs Patterson, Zielc and Clark, were appolnte assessors to levy Water Kate. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the proceed ’ngs. ALjIXAXDKA TOWN COCA'CiL. The usual fortnightly meeting of the Town Council was held in the Coerc'd Chambers on Fri ay, the 7th instant at tue usual hour. Present, the Mayor, Kohert Finlay, Esq., and Council ors Theycrs, Lores hud, Jack and Hillhouse. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The inward correspon lence was read and received. The outward read and approved A letter was read from the Town Clerk of Lawrence, asking the cooperal/on of upcountry Municipalities in their endeavors to secure from Government theeoutinua-.ee of subsidy of £2 to £1 to rho extent of one shining rate for the next three years, commencing with the present municipal year. The Town Clerk was instructed to reply, an i state that the resolution quite met the approval of this Council, and would at one commuuioiite with the Member for this District on the subject. The Town Clerk was accordingly instructed to communicate with Mr. Fraser,

requesting him to cooperate -With other up country members to secure the object in vie\v. '■the applieat ion of James Ah Kow requesting liberty to deposit gravel on Mullingar street was granted. A letter was read from Law Samnet and Co, giving quotations of the various prices of quicks, &c. Tlio Town Clerk was instructed to reply and order as many three year old quicks as would plant eight chains of fencing round the Alexandra Cemetery. The Town Clerk laid on the table an estimate of the cost of pipes, &c. obtained by him from Mr. M Gregor, Engineer, Dunedin, to supply the Township with water. Ordered to stand over. The Town Clerk was instructed to see that the channels in Tarbert street be properly chared. It was decided on the motion of Councillor Thcyers, seconded by Councillor Beresford, timt an ante-room be erected at the rear of the Council Chambers, adjoining entrance, the building to be lo by 10. The Town Clerk was instructed to apply to the trustees of the Alexandra Library for liberty to erect such building on their section, the Council to have power to remove the said luidddig when they think lit.

The Mayor said that he wished to propose a vote of thanks to Mr. J G. Gumming for the auto manner in which he had conducted the business o f the Corporation as acting Town Clerk during the absence of Mr. Henderson. This was seconded by Councillor Bercsiord and carried. A vote of thanks to the Chair concluded the proceedings.
