(Condensed from the Daily Times.) April 20. Mr. Haughton, the Chairman of Committees took his seat. Mr. Thomson presented a petition from Mr. John Retchel. also a petition from settlers in theClutha district, praying that certain run. should bo declared into Hundreds Mr. Henderson presented a petition from the inhabitants of the Clntba, praying that a Trust might be formed for the navigation of the Molyneux. A communication from the Provincial Auditor, showing the amount of authorized expenditure for the past year, L 12,196 3s4d was laid on the table an' read. Mr. Shepherd, at the next sitting, to move ; —“ That a return be laid upon the table of the quantity and situation of land taken up on the goldfields during last year, the amount payable for same by way of rent, the number of holdings; also, the number of great cattle and sheep depasturing on the goldfields under the Goldfields Regulations, the localities a id revenues reccivedj.during the last year for the same.” Mr, Shepherd, at next sitting : —“ That a return he laid on the table showing the quantity and position of lands thrown open for settlement on the goldfields since the last session, the areas taken up, compensation paid, and the names of persons receiving same.” Air. Shepherd at next sitting : —“That a detailed statement of the amounts voted last session which have not been, or have only been partially expended, showing also the various sums carried to suspense account, be laid on the table as early as possible. Mr, Gillies, at next sitting :—“That the honorarium payable to members entitled to it be limited to a sum of L2O for the session. Mr. Vogel, at next sitting :—“That a select Committee he appointed to take into consideration the Southern Trunk Railway Amendment Ordinance, and the whole subject of construction of the Railway ; and that it be an order of the Council that such «immittee shall consist of Mr. Speaker, ith his consent, Messrs Duncan, Reid, Driver, Henderson, Gillies, Turnbull, and the mover. Mr. Mouat, at next sitting: “ That a Select Committee be appointed to inquire into the management of the ferries throughout the province, with the object of ascertaining the possibility of fixing a uniform rate of tolls) such committee to consist of Messrs Brown, Hughes, Turnbull, Reid, and the mover. Mr. Mouat at next sitting to move: “That a return be laid on the table, showing the total amount of arrears owing under the head of immigration-payments, andspecifying the amount of good and bad debts respectively, and the names of the persons owing the same,” Mr. Mouat. at next sitting to move: ‘■That an address be presented to his Honor the Superintendent, requesting that ho will be pleased to cause a sum to bo placed on
the Estimates for the construction of a lino of telegraph to the Mount Ida goldfields." The House, on the motion of Mr. Brown, adjourned at half-past three o’clock until two p.m. on Monday.
