ARRIVAL
OF THE DUKE OF EDINBURG . [BY ELECTRIC TELEGRAPH.] (from our own correspondent.) Dunedin, Thursday, 1 p.m. His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh arrived on Monday, and was most enthusiastically received. About fifteen thousand people were
present. The Duke visited the Theatre in the
Evening.
On Tuesday His Tioyal Hignness held a levee, attended the Caledonian sports during the day, and a ball in
the evening. Yesterday he attended the races* and afterwards dined at the Club.
The following is the result of the first day’s racing:—Maiden Plate— Tantrem, Atlas, Mahratta ; Duke of Edinburgh Stakes—Captain Scott, Southern Chief, Croydon ■ Ladies’ Purse— Banjo, Young Nelly Gray, Alldallah ; Taieri Stakes —Bobby Burns, Raven, Miss King ; Trotting Race—Magic,Flora Temple, Ranger. The i mke is gone to the races again to-day, and will attend the theatre in the evening.
He will propahly take his departure to-morrow. His Royal Highness expresses himself highly pleased with Dunedin. The city was niost brilliantly illuminated.
