DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL

The usual monthly meeting of the Committee of the Dnnstan District Hospital was held in the Council Chambers, on Tuesday. March 2, at 8 p.ra. Present: Mr. G. Fache in the chair, Rev. C. S. The minutes of previous meetings were read and confirmed. The outward and inward correspondence was read, received, and adopted. The visiting Committee’s reports to the effect that the affairs of the institution were in a satisfactory condition, and recommending payment of saaries and accounts amounting to £I79ICa. 9(1. were read and adopted. The Treasurer’s report shewing an ovei • draft of £124 Cs. lid, and Government Subsidy due £I,4SC 2s. Cd., was read and adopted. The Secretary was instructed to apply to the Government for an instalmcntof subsidy due, pointing o t the overdraft. The House Surgeon’s Report was road and received. The report of Sub-Committee appointed in connexion with House Surgeon’s residence was read an l adopted. After dheu-sion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr. Hazlett, seconded by Mr. Christophers, that a building be erected at a cost not excee ing £4OO, and that Messrs. Clayton and .Mason be instructed to prepare plans and specifications forthwith. The following tenders were accepted : Burials—W. Wells, fl 10s. each. Coffins—W. Atkins, £2 3s. each. Meat—Attfield and We'sford.—Beef and pork, 8d per lb. ; mutton and lamb, 6d. ; shins, Is. each. Milk—C. Holden.—7d. per quart. Bread—J. Hastie.—ls. per 41b. loaf. Groceries, Wines, Spirits, &c. —J. Hazlett. —Arrowroot, Is. 2d, ; butter, Is. 9d. ; barley, sd. ; candles, Is. 2d. ; cocoa, 2s. ; jams, 15s. per dozen ; coffee, Is. 50. per lb. ; mustard, Is. 2d. ; mazina, Is. ; oatmeal, 3(1. ; pepper, Is. 2d. ; rice, 5d.; salt. 2.U1. : soda, 2id. ; white sugar, 7 hj ; brown ditto, Id. ; stirch, 7d. ; siuces, 1 Sg. per dozen ; soap, 50s. per 2s. Tenders were opened and Y-cad for lining and padding a refractory ward, ordered to stand over, in the mean time the Secretary l was instructed to communicate with the Government, stating the desirability of such an addition to the present buildings, and asking for a special grant to carry out the object. Upon the recommendation of Dr. Niven, it was resolved to purchase for the use of the Institution, a sulphur fume inhaler, at a cost not exceed! g £l. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.
