lington. For a long while it has been understood that he has been the author of strained attempts at faoptiousness in the shape of pretended dialogues which have appeared in the Government paper, but which : have bo !ii remarkable only for their gross personalties. Dr. Featherstone has treat® 1 with contempt some scandalous examples-of the kind, and I eirdouraoeclf by the impunity with/which ho lias met, Mr Haughton lias been seeking fresh game. Mr. Judge Johnson aiul MA Felix Wakefield have' been considered suitable subjects by himselt, but not so by others. A general feeling of disgust is arous
Ed, that a person like ’Mr. Haughton occupying an official position, .should turn into ridicule a Judge of the Snpyeme Court—one who might be supposed to be exempt from political animosities. Mr. Stafford, we understand, amongst Others, is very angry. A man who indulges as Mr Hauglit.ui lias done so freely in the use of personalties, cannot be surprised that his weapon is turned against himself. Me cannot say more at present than that lie is likely-to find that the example he has set will be followed to Lis own detriment, although to the Colony perhaps with the fortunate result of ridding it of any further political knowledge of him in the future.”
