ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Friday evening, the 12th inst. Present: the Mayor, and Councillors Beresford and Jack. The minutes of last meeting were read and confirmed. Onward correspondence was read and received. • A letter was read from the Colonial Secretary’s office, Wellington, stating, in reply to petition forwarded by this Council, that the chief polling place for the Goldfields had been removed from Naseby to Clyde. Leave was granted to Thomas Robson, to erect ab uilding on unused portion of Mul-lingar-street, subject to conditions proposed by him. The Town Clerk was instructed to grant a license to Mr. E. Brown for his dog-cart, under the conditions of the Muncipal Bye Laws. A letter was read from the Town Clerk, tendering his resignation, as he had been advised to try a change of climate, for the benefit of his health. After some consideration, the Council resolved, That instead of accepting the resignation of the Town Clerk, leave of absence be granted to him for three months, the Council undertaking to provide a substitute to do the duties of the office in the interim. The Town Clerk, after expressing his thanks to the Council for their consideration towards him, signified his acceptance of their kind proposal. Report No. 9, Works Committee, was read, it stated that Mullingar- street was now open for traffic, and that Foynes-street (had been gravelled in accordance with the wish of the Council. The report was adopted Accounts to the amount of £56 16s. were passed for payment. The Town Clerk mentioned for the information of the meeting, that the Government Subsidy on last half year’s rates, amounting to £125 13s. had been placed to the credit of the Corporation in the Bank of New Zealand. The Town Clerk also stated that he had sold to Mr. Charnock the loose nibble stones removed from off Mullingar-street for £2 ss. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business of the sitting.
