RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURTS.
CLYDE, Tuesday, Feb. 9. Before Vincent Pyke, Esq., R.M.) M. Keleher v. J. Kenny. Claim for £9 17s Od. for damages caused by defendant’s horses to Plaintiff’s crops. Judgment £5, an ’ ISs., costs. R. Barlow v. W. Hastedt. Struck out. No appearance. Thormahlen v. M'lntosh. Claim, £4 9s. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for amount claimed, and 95., costs. Seally and Starkey v. Seddon. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for amount claimed, and 135., costs. Thormahlen v. Anderson. Claim £3 6. No appearance of defendant. Judgment for amount and £1 75., costs. Insley v. Deans. Struck out. Summons not served. William Allen was charged with being drunk and disorderly. Fined 205., or 24 hours imprisonment. Kate o‘Reilly was charged with assaulting one William Petres, and inflicting a wound on his head with a tomahawk.. The evidence proved the assault, but showed that it was committed under aggravating circumstances. The Bench in summing up commented severely on the practice of using tuch dangerous weapons upon the slightest provocation, and said under no circumstances was it justifiable, but as great provocation in this instance had been proved, the utmost leniency would be exercised, and sentenced the prisoner to seven days, with hard labor. The same prisoner was charged with vagrancy ; this charge was withdrawn. The same prisoner was charged with being drunk and disorderly, 24 hours imprisonment, with hard labor.
