ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting was held in the Council chambers on Friday evening last. Present: the Mayor, and Councilors Beresford, Hillhouse and Theyers. The minutes of previous meeting were read andconfitmed. A letter was read from the Town Clerk, Clyde, enclosing correspondence between his Honor the Superintendent and the Colonial Secretary, relative to the removal of the chief polling place for the Goldfields from Clyde to Naseby. The Town Clerk was instructed to acknow'edge receipt of communication, and to state that this Council will doits utmost by petition to have Clyde restored as tho chief polling place. In reply to a letter from Messrs. Mills, Dick, and Co., the Town Olerkwas instructed to order one hundred copies of Bye Laws of the Corporation, which lately appeared in the‘‘Provincial Government Gazette,” and arc now in force within the Municipality. In reply to a letter from Mr. Charnock, for leave to kindle fires in roar of his premises for the purpose of tiring wheels, tho Town Clerk was instructed to state that he might do so, provided that such fires bo lights- withi an enclosed space, and that he also keep a cask of water rcadyj in case the lire should spread. Leave was granted to Mr. Bobertson, of the Geelong Hotel to erect two horse-posts in front of his premises. In reply to a letter from the Manuherikia Ground Sluicing Co., the Town Clerk was instructed to state that the Council had no objections to that portion of the bank of the Molyneux river, extending from their dun to the boundary of the township being thrown open in extended claims, provided | that no existing rights he interfered with. I In reply to a question by Mr. Theyers,

the Mayor stated that the Deputation appointed to wait on Messrs. M'Laren, Greig, and Co., had had no opportunity of seeing those gentlemen, but would make it his business as soon as Cr. Jack returned from town to wait on them at the station. On the motion of Cr. Beresford, seconded by Cr. Theyers, the Works Committee were instructed to report as to the cost of making Mullingar-street passable for vehicles, also to report as to the condition of Teynesstreet. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the proceedings.
