The first-goers had the bust of it tiiis meeting, the speed in every event was tremendous. The attendance was not so large as expected, but on the second day there was a goodly crowd assembled Messrs Robeitson’s new steamer Antrim made a trip each day wi ( hpasssengers from Queenstown, in fact this was the most pleasant mode of conveyance by which the course could re reached. The Shotover was low so communication with the Arrow was easv. Yisilors from the Dunstan assembled in good force, and what is more, they carried off a pretty considerable share of the spoil. Mr. Turn bull’s Golden Cloud was first favorite for the Town Plate, but succumbed to Traveller. The Cloud, however, hone out brighter the second day and carried off the Handicap. He was splendidly ridden by Frank Foote who finished up in beautiful style Mr. Powell made some excel lent starts, but onthe second day he yielded up his office to Mr. G. Atkins. The accommodation at the Grand Stand as regards that portion set aside for the sight seeing public was very imperfect, in fact no lady could make use of the Stand to view the racing; this is a matter that should not escape the attention of the Stewards in future. Garry Owen (O’Brien) ... 11 Wenkeim’s g.m. Star of the South, (Simpson) 22 On the third day, Saturday, there were a number of private matches and some very good Hack Races. Mr. Turnbull’s Gipsy Queen won a race got up for the benefit of the Hospital, which realized something about 15f.
