ALEXANDRA TOWN COUNCIL.

The usual fortnightly meeting of the Council was held on Friday last, the ISth inst. Present : The Mayor and full Council.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

Outward correspondence was road and approved. The Town Clerk read Report No. 7 of Works Committee. It stated that a track had be 1 1;.e'h Ito the Cornelo y, at a cost of £4 10s. The report was adopted.

Statement of half-year’s rates collected to date (£G2 l*2s. Cd.) was laid on the table fiy the Town Clerk. The statement was approved of, and ordered to be transmitted to the Government.

The Mayor intimated that, while in Dunedin, In hi I waits 1 umn his Honor the Superintendent, and had brought before his notice the following subjects, viz : Commonage; road on north bank of the Manuhcidkia river, from about Xushc’s farm to Alexandra ; ana road on the west bank of the Mulyueux. The Council approved of his Honor’s suggestion, and the Mayor and Cr, Jack were appointed to wait on Messrs. Mmareu, Greig, and Co., ana moot the subject of commonage. The Mayor stated that the second matter was to receive the immediate attention oi the Government. Ho (the Mayor) might state that Mr. Simpson, the District Engineer, had already examined a line of roa i. and was to recommend the matter to the Government at once. Regarding the road on the west hank of tho Molyaeux, his Honor stated that they were doing their best to get the road passable for light traffic. The Mayor mentioned that he had passed over the mad on fils Way from town, and could therefore testify that it was quite passable for light, vehicles at the present time. The meeting was adjourned to that day three weeks, an 1 a vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business of the evening.
