Alex\\dra. 14th Decamber, 1838. (Before Vincent Pyke, Esq,, P.M. and Warden. Six Publicans were charged with allowing their lamps to be unlighted The defendants pleaded that on the evening, on which the offence took place, there were no visitors in the Town, and they considered to light their lamps was unnecessary. Ihe Bench ruled that, it had no discretion in the matter, and fined each Boniface, in the sum of Is. and 6s, Gd, costs. Clyde. Tuesday, 15th Dec. Cops v Badger—Claim for £l4 6s. settled. Same v Manders—Claim for £5. Judgment for Plaintiff, for amount '’aimed, and 11s. costs. Warrant of TDistress to issue, failing sufficient levy, one months imprisonment in Clyde Gaol.
Cheong Fat, alius, Cheong Ah Fat, and Low Thong Yoxx, were charged with vagrancy, and remanded for seven days. 16th Dec. Ah Chee, alias Ah Hame. and Ah Kaw, alias Ah Hame, were charged with fraud, under the Vagrancy Act, The offence committed by the prisoners, was offering to dispose of adulterated gold at Cromwell. They were remanded till the 22nd instant. Cromwell. IGth Dec. Two cases of drunkenness were disposed of.
