DUNKLIN (FBOM UUlt OWN COUKESi'OMJKNT.) July , r >, 1868. During the past week there has been little of importance stirring in the City, and it is a matter of some difficulty to make up my us ml quota of news. Business of all kinds has been exceedingly dull, and as yet there is litt e prospect of a change for the better. Dunedin is full of persons vainly seeking employment, and those who have the means are leaving either for the West Coast, Auckland or the Fijis. For the latter place, the Lapwing cleared out on Saturday with a large cargo, and a full compliment of passengers; amongst the items in her manifest, is the material for bringing out a Newspaper, so that I suppose we shall soon have full information about a country, which however uable, is at present at least to iuMT people a trra iuco< t r(ita. The remains of t ap'ain Diiver, who was killed on board the "Dispatch"' in the Oamaru roadstead during the recent gales, were interred in the Dun edin Cemetery on Saturday the 27th ult. ; they were followed to their last, resting place by a large concourse of friends, the Freemasons, of which Order he was a number, mustering in strong force. Mr. Driver was ■„. brother of Mr. H. Driver, of the well known firm of Diiver and M'Lean of this City. It is currently reported that Mr. H D. Murison, the Member for Waikouaiti in the General Assembly has resigned jiis seat. The meeting of the Assembly is fixed for the 9th : Colonel Cargill and Mr. Bradshaw left for Wellington vesterday, and were followed to day l.y Messrs Reid, Hepburn Mervyn.'Boynolds, Bums. Patersou, and Dr. Buchanan. The remaining Members, including his Honor the Superintendent leave on the 10th. Last night, a man named Gordon, formerly an employee in (lie ,%'ar Office was found in a dying state in Mi c laggan Street : he was rt moved by the Police to the Freemason's Hotel", but expire d before medical aid could le. j procured ; an inquest is to he held on t lie body to morrow; it is assorted I that the unfortunate man was seen lvI ing in the same position for two or I three hours, and when it is recollect* d | that the place in which he was found, j is one of the principal streets in the ] city, and that (lie constable en the i beat should havepmsrd the spot every ; quarter of an hour, it, does s< em I strange thai he should have been for such a kugtli of t me iu—li efed.
