ARRIYAL OF THE ENGLISH MAIL VIA PANAMA. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) DIJNKDIN, TIIURSr.AY, 4 P.M. The Ruahine, with the Panama mails from Europe, arrived at Wellington on Tuesday, the 26th inst., at half-past 12 p.m. She brings news from England up to the 2nd of April. 4k The following is a summary of the news brought by the mail: — London, April 2. The Queen is at Buckingham Palace, and *s in good health. The debate on Gladstone's resolutions commenced in the House of Commons on the 30th of March. This has been the greatest conflict that has occurred during the present Parliamentary session. The question of the disestablishment of the Irish Church is considered settled. Mr. Gladstone's Bill for the Abolition of Church Rates has been carried. The debate on Lord Stanley's amendment to postpone the consideration of Mr. Gladstone's resolutions until next Parliamc t has ended. Six hundred members recorded their votes. The Government were defeated by a majority of sixty. The announcement of the result of the debate was received with great cheering. The Liberal party have held a meeting. A Cabinet Council was held, to consider what action should bo taken. Ministers have decided upon resigning should the Opposition retain a large majority during the Sessior. King Victor Emmanuel is seriously ill. The Pope is suffering from an attack of bowel complaint. A new indictment has been profurred against Jefferson Davis. A Bill for the abolition of flogging in the Army has passed the House of Commons. An anti Russian riot has taken place in Bavaria. The Italian Government have sent ships of war to the Japanese waters to protect Italian trade. Lord Cranbourne has been tendered the office of Governor General of Canada. Earl Mayo' Secretary of State for Ireland has been offered the Governor Generalship of India. Seven thousm.d emigrants have left Germany in one week for American Ports. Dunedin, 5. p.m. Mr. M'Dermid, the whip of the late Government has tabled a rotice of motion of want of confidenco in the new Executive. We published the following, as a " slip," on Wednesday last: — Dunedin, 2.10 p.m. The names of the new Executivo have been announced in the Government " Gazette." Treasurer—Reid Secretary—Thompson Non-oflicials—Messrs. Clark and Hutcheson A vacancy has been reserved for the Goldfields.
