Ross, on Thursday next there will be a Soiree at the Town Hall, Clyde, and another similar festivity will be held at the School Room Alexandra, on the following evening. The riot at Addison's flat, has happily been quelled without any serious casualty. From the " Westport Times'' of the lltli hist., we extract the following particulars,—" Whilst the Court was sitting yesterday morning, a man named Mason arrived in town from Addison's flat with a severe wound on his head, bringing the intelligence that the processionists in the loyal demonstration of Thursday, who were returning home to the Flat, were assaulted about the middle of it by a mob of Irish Fenians, who, with stones and other projectiles, inflicted severe wounds on several of the part}-. Mr. Warden Kynnersley, with the Inspector, and Sergeant of Police, arrived shortly afterwards on the ground and expressed their determination to preserve the peace at any cost, No more attempts ai violence were at-

tempted afterwards, although great excitement prevailed- Next day, Saturday, the expectation that force "would ipequire to be opposed to force was still (prevalent in Westport; and about noon that day a, •sudden burst of music from the bagpipes, : ».nd cheers of men, were heard in the tcttra, into ■ wliich marched a laige procession, with banners flying, and singing the " lied, White, and Blue." This was a band of about 250 miners, from the Caledonian Terrace, who had heard of the attack on the loyalists at Addison's flat, and had at once come into Town to offer their services to the Go vernment. They proposed to proceed to tiny Flat forthwith ; and were loud iu their condemnation of the attack on the men, and the cause from wliich it arose. Dr. Giles, the Resident Magistrate, and Mr. Kynnersley, both thanked the men for their loyal and promptly offered assistance in support of the law; and said that if their aid were really required, they should be prepared to accept it ; but at present they did not think it necessary, as order had been restored, for the time being at least, and they hoped it would not be again disturbed. Many of the Caledonian Terrace men were of another opinion, and were anxious to be permitted to take summary ven geance on the Addison flat Fenians ; but they were assured that the law was quite equal to the occasion, but that if necessary the assistance of them and others of the public would be at once accepted. The " Gazettee" contains two notices of insolvency by miners, viz.:—James Miller, of Drybread, and William Annett, of the Hibernia Water-race' West Taieri, The latter is by deed of arrangement under the Bankruptcy Act, 1567. The cases heard in the PoliceCou't, Clyde, during were disposed |of as follows: —Andrew Stevens, vagrancy—one month's imprisonment. The same, entering a digger's tent and stealing therefrom a bag containing about three-quarters of an ounce of gold—six months' further imprisonment. L. W. Carter, charged with embezzling the funds of the Clyde Corporation, was dismissed, no case of embezzlement being made out, the Corporation owing accused £22, while the amount which lie was charged with embezzling was £l6 ."is. We are compelled, from want of space, to hold over a full report of the latter casetill our next.
