The deceased was engaged working in his sluicing claim, when suddenly a huge boulder, weighing many tons became detached from the "face" and striking Carey, he wasinstantly killed. The accident appears not to have ari.senfroin carelessnessor neglect onthepartof those working in theclaim. Every precaution had been taken to avoid accident. De. ceased was highly respected, and his funeral was attended by at least seventy ho so men, besides a number of persons ;n vehicles.
