The following summary is condensed from the " Daily Times": — London, Jan. 27. Her Majesty is well, and remains at Osborne in comparative retirement The Princess of Wales is rapidly re-covering-strength, and has returned to her usual avocations. Charles Kean died on January 13. The Queen wrote a letter of condoto Mrs. Kean. ™ Fenianism is nearly quiet. The effective measures taken bv the authorities have prevented further outrages. Burke and Casey have been committed. The man who tired the powder barrel at Clarkenwell Prison has been captured. The other prisoners have been further remanded. It is now ascertained that seven persons were murdered, and mutilation and injury were suffered by forty persons. Tranquility has been restored in Cork, after various Fenian riots. Twenty thousand Irishmen, residing in London, have presented an address of loyalty and devotion to the Queen. Mullony has turned Queen's evidence, and has disclosed a Fenian plot to seize the Bank of England. The Government has introduced a Bill suspending the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland,, until the 18th March next year. New York, Feb loth. Mr Adams, the United States Minister has resigned. His successsor is not yet appointed Genera] Grant is the favorite for the Presidency of one section of the Radicals. Mr. Chase beads the other. COLONIAL INTELLIGENCE. Melbourne March 20. St. Patrick's Day passed off quietly No procession was attempted. The excitement was general. At the St. Patrick's supper and ball in the evening, Mr. Duffy proposed the health of the Queen, which was cordially received. Mr. Duffy defended the Irish colonists from the charge of Treasonable practices. Popular indignation at Fenianism is intense. There is great excitement at laratThe Prince is declared officially to be convalescent, 0' Farrell has confessed ; he says,— Two months ago, orders arrived from Fenian Head Quarters to kill the Prince. Ten men swore to do it. 0 Farrell was chosen by lot, out of the ten, he twice attempted and failed. The names of his accomplices have not transpired. Mr. G. Thome is slowly recovering. A man named Collins, alias Monday, a Ticket of Leave Man, has been arrested for the murder of five persons at Yass, N. S. W. He has confessed. Mr. Wilson Grey of New Zealand, has been appointed District Judge of Geelong. Several new Orange Lodges have been formed, eight at Ballarat alone. Meetings of condolence are being held all over the Colonies, March 24th. The Prince's wound is healing fast, he visited the Galatea to day. O'Farrell still asserts that instructions to kill the Prince, came from home. Mr. R. C. Aspinall and Mr. Dalley are retained for the assassin's defence. A large meeting of ladies was held in the Exhibition building, to express sympathy with the Prince and condolence with the Queen. Several thousand pounds are already subscribed in Sydney towards the Alfred Memorial. Sydney, March 24th. The Prince walked about the Govhouse yesterday, and afterwards was wheeled about for nearly two hours in a Bath Chair in the Domain. He visits the Galatea to morrow. Reports are current of his departure earlier than was anticipated. The voyage home is likely to bo made 'via' Torres Straits, A soldier of the 50th. Regiment robbed and nearly murdered an aged woman near Randwick on Saturday night. The ruffian was arrested, Mr. Thomas Walker has donated .£IOOO to the Alfred Memorial Fund. The Orange lodges meet to night,
o adopt an address to the Prince. A report of the Governor's having received a threatening letter is discredited. Adelaide, March 23rd. A meeting of the working classes was held on Saturday* and attended by some 400 persons. Resolutions were proposed expressive of sympathy with the Prince and condolence with the Queen. They were enthusiastically carried. The report cf the commission on the diseases of cereals will be published next week. Tne corn market is without alteration. Wellington, March 28. Telegrams were received by the General Government last night from Ho kitika. Everything is quiet there, but the people are in a state of excite- ■ ment. The Celtic cross had been removed from the Cemetery some days since. Father Larkins applied to the authorities to be allowed to erect it again, but the request was refused. Six hundred special constables had been i sworn in during the week, and were increasing last night to 1000. Fathei Larkins had been arrested without any disturbance. The Attorney General gave his opin ion that some of the articles in the " Celt" are seditious, and calculated to excite a breach of peace. The , steamer " ?t Kilda " was despatched this morning to Patea, for the purpose of conveying a detachment of armed constabulary, stationed there, to Ho- • kitika, to the number of sixty five ; in aid of the local force, should such be necessary, though such necessity is not deemed very probable. Bishop Viard of Wellington, and ' his priests at Hokitika—Fathers M' i Donough and M'Taggatt, have shewn the greatest interest in nidi' g in the preservation of peace and order, and are entitled to the thanks of the community. Wellington, March 30. Auckland, March 25. The Governor has arrived, and met with a most kindly reception. The news of the attempted assassina tion of the Duke of Edinburgh caused profound gloom in the place. We have no news from Hokitika, but plenty of absurd rumors up to the i present are in circulation, but they are not believed. A telegram from Nelson on Saturday night soys, that 100 riflesand 10,000 rounds ofaramu- ' nition were sent to Hokitika that evening by the " Rangitoto."
