TOWN" COUNCIL

A. special meeting of the Council was b*ld on Monday the 9th inst. Present, the Mayor, Councillors Whetter, Kidd, Smitham, and KdwardsThe minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr, 0. W. Ooodger, proposing to rent ground belonging to the Corporation, adjoining his premises for »term of years. trance to their back premises from Melinore Street. Granted. A letter was read from Mr. John Grey, of City Saw Mills, Dunedin. Ordered to stand over. f A letter was read from Messrs. Fergusson and Mitchell. Ordered to stand over, and Town Clerk to write for explanation. Resolved upon the motion of Councillor Smitham, seconded by Councillor Kidd,— That the Inspector of nuisances {jive Mr. W. Grant notice to remove sawpit in twenty four hours from date of notice. Resolved upon the motion of Councillor Smitham, seconded by Councillor Kidd, that the Town Cleric write to the Honorary Secretary of the Cromwell cemetery, informing him, that they regret being unable to assist them at present. Resolve 1 upon the motion of Councillor Edwards, seconde I by "Councillor Whetter, that Mr. J. Stuart and \V. Vincent King lie accepted as bondsmen for Mr. G. Jenour, Town Clerk. Resolved upon the motion of Or. Edwards seconded by Councillor Kidd, that the Town Clerk write to Messrs. Ooodger and Co., calling their attention to the Order made by Mr. Warden Stratford, upon their application to construct a Water Race from the Lowlrorn Creek to Cromwell, and that they immediately comply with its conditions. Resolved upon'the motion of Councillor E wards, seconded by Councillor Whetter, that the Town Clerk write to Dunedin~to ascertain the price of day ? piping. Resolved upon the motion of Or. Whetter, seconded by Or Edwards, that the TowuC lerk write to the Superintendent, informing him that the Surveyor has resurveyed the road from Cromwell, to Mesrrs Alderson and Douglass' Station, and that he finds the work can be completed for the | sum of ft,GCO, and that it can 1* pruoeed--1 ed with immediately. i N Resolved upon the motion of Cr.
