ALEXANDRA.
(FROM A CbItUESro^DKXT,) A meeting of the Presbyterian Church Congregation was held in the School house here, on the evening of Wednesday the 11th inst at 8 o'clock There were about a hundred pel-sons present, all seemed to take a lively interest in the object of the meeting. The Rev. Dr. Copland, who presided, conducted Divine Service, taking for his text the words, " But wlioso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and eontinueth therein, he being. ! fmt a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in bis deed." The ."acrament <>f lSaptL-m was dispensed at the close of the service. The object, for which the- meeting had been convened Dr. Copland" stated, was to take the necessary measures for the posrtuauenjt settlement of a minister in- the I'istrict of -Alexandra and Clyde, prov.ded the Gongre gat ion desired it, and were prepared U> enter harmoniously into the movement The I ev. gentleman detailed the steps, which, in accordance with the law of the Presbyterian Church, were usually taken in fie settlement of a minister over a congregation. 1 A resolution was moved by Mr. Finlay, and seconded by Mr. I.lalliday " That this Congregation petition the Presbytery of Cliitha to moderate in a call'to the Itev. Charles" Steward lit-si to be Minister of the Congregation of Alexandra and Clyde" A show of hands having been asked, the. Chairman declare i th" motion unanimously carried. The Secretary wits instructed to intimate to the .Moderator of the Presbytery, the re.solutio ~ which the meeting had adopted, and to request that" the Presbytery 'might tike the necessary steps fur settling .Mr. Ross as .Minister in th- District, as soon as might be convenient. The Was asked by Mr. Berresford, whether the Synod would grant assistance towards the erection of a Church. " No ii.s.-istii'nc.e h ']) Jr. Copland said, would be given towards the erection of a Church, but £'2Ult would be given from the Church land Fund, towards the erection of a Manse, provided that the Presbytery were satisfied with the plans arid ,-pecitications of the building to he erected. The meeting was closed by Dr.'CVpland pronouncing the benediction.
