Total 5,0680z. 2clwt On Monday last, an elderly man, named James Murphy was admitted into the Hospital suffering from a fractured leg. From what we can , glean of the accident, it appears that Murphy, who is working on the line of road between Teviot and Alexandra ; while preceding to his work on monday morning, stumbled and fell over an embankment into the Chamounix Creek, thereby receiving the injuries. We are happy to say the usual remedies were successfully np, plied, and the poor fellow is progressing favorably. We are informed by Mr. S. M Clarke Master of Clyde School, that on Monday next, the 29th inst., he will reopen his night class, for writing, arithmetic, geography, grammar, &c The Latin class commenced last Session, will be continued. A chemist and druggist at Queens--1 town has the following notice posted • up in his window : Any " Fenian i entering this shop will he poisoned or ) shot,"
Meetings of the inhabitants of St. Bathan's and Blacks have been held at those places respectively during the pjist week, for the purpose of electing local committees, in connection with the Dunstan District Hospital. Mr. It. Barlow, Secretary to the Institution, was present on both occasions, and assisted at the proceedings. After a number of questions, respecting the management and the general business of Institution put to Mr. Barlow, had licen satisfactorily answered, the election of Committees was gone into with the following result :• —St. Bathan's, Messrs. Pyle, Haloran, Murray, Taylor, Wheeler, Kenny, Gaffney, Dods and Purton were elected, Mr. Dods to be Secretary, and Mr. Pu ton Treasurer. Black's, —Messrs Bourke, Ryan, Wickham, M'lntosli, Minton, Worth and Leslie were elected ; Mr. Burke, to he Treasurer, and Mr. Worth, Secretary. At either place, the utmost confidence was expressed, ! at the general management of the Institution. The Telegraph Stations at both Alexandra and Cromwell, were opened ! to the public during the past week. We extract the following from the quarterly meeting of the Presbytery of Clutha, held on the 19th at Bal elutha, as published in the "Tuapeka Press"—Vlr. C. S. Ross, candidate for license, next underwent examination in Greek, Hebrew, Church History and Theology, and delivered the j trial discourses which had been piej scribed by the Presbytery. The PresI bytery sustained Mr. Ross's tria's I severally and conjointly, and agreed to license him as a Probationer of the; Presbyterian Church, which was accordingly done by the Moderator, I the Presbytery engaging in prayer. | Thereafter Mr. Ross received the light ; hand of fellowship from the ModeraI tor and the members. Petitions from i the congregation were read, praying j the Presbytery to Moderate in a call |to the Rev. C. S. Ross. After hear- ! ing a report from the Moderator of I the congregation (the Rev. Dr. CopJ land) from which it apppeared that ! there was the utmost unanimity and ordiulity throughout the district in respect to this call, the Presbytery agreed to grant the prayer of the petition, and appointed the Rev. Dr CiplaoA to preach mid Moderate on the call On Friday, the 10th April, at seven o'clock, at Alexandra. The Presbytery adjourned, to meet tit Alexandra on Friday. 10th April, at seven o'clock.
