CLYDE TOWN COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly mooting nf the Council took place in the Council Chambers, on Tuesday evening the 4th inst. Present, v r. I). M'Plurson, Mayor, and Councillors Hazlett, 31
Connochie, Goodwin,' and Cambridge. The minutes of the last General and two Special Meetings were read. Upon the motion of Councillor Hazlett, the Standing Orders Were suspended, to receive a deputation from the Clyde Volunteer Fire Brigade; Messrs Hueston and Fache formed the deputation.—Mr Fache after brieflystating the result of the Public meeting at which the Brigade was formed, read, and presented a memorial, pi'aying the Council to render some pecuniary assistance towards obtaining the necessary appliances for a Fire Brigade. The Mayor said he thoroughly agreed with the movement, and considered that every credit was clue to those gentlemen who had initiated it, and likewise considered that the request embodied in the memorial should be complied with, but .until the matter had been duly considered by the Coun cil, no answer could be givon; he would assure the deputation, the Coun cil, to the extent of its power would render every assistance. After thank ing the Council for the favorable reception, the deputation withdrew-. Upon the business of the Council being renewed, the inward and outward correspondence was read, including a letter from the Quecnstown Council, stating they proix.se the Municipal Conference to be held in Dunedin seven days prior to the meeting oft lie Provincial Council. A letter from the Secretary of the Dunstan District Horpital, apphin" for the use of the Council Chambers to hold meetings. / Also a letter from Councillor P.yan, tendering his resignation. Proposed by Councillor ITazlett, "That the letters from the Queens, town Council and Councillor Ryan stand over till next meeting." -e----conded by Councillor Cambridge and ear: 1 red. Proposed by Councillor M'Conno chic,—" That th • re.juiwt of the Hospital Committee be complied with." Seconded by Councillor Cambridge and carripd. Thy Town Clerk stated that 114 signatures ha 1 been attached to the memorial to the Provincial Executive respecting the propose:! change of commonage, he was instructed to forward it to town by the first Mail. A lengthened discussion took place respecting th.3 proposal made by His Honor the Superintendent for the Council to take the management of the expenditure of the vote of money on tic Nevis Road. Proposed by Councillor Hazlett, seconded by Councillor M'Connochic, •' hat the Town Clerk write to the Government to the effect, that the Council arc willing to undertake the management of the Vote in question.' Carried Accounts, amounting to £4 1 lis Od were passed for payment. The usual vote to the Chair, concluded the proceedings.
