DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL

The annual general meeting of the subscribers of the Dunstan District Hospital was held in the Council Chambers on Fridayevening last. William Fraser, Esq., Vice-President, in the chair. The Chairman, after a few brief remarks on the subject of the meeting, called upon Mr. L. W. Carter, the Secretary, to read the annual report of the Committee of Management for the year ending the 31st December, 1807. "During your Committee's term of office the buildings have been improved, a female ward has been erected, and the garden has supplied the wants of the institution. J "The number of patients remaining in hospital on the 31st of December, 1866, was 20 ; admitted during the past year—miles 70, females 4 : making a total of 94. Of these 76 have been discharged cured or relieved ; eight have died ; 10 patients are still under treatment. 70 males and 30 females have also received attention as outdoor patients. " Your committee have hel 1 eleven monthly, six special, four adjourned, and two general meetings ; making a total of twenty-three meetings. Shaw) ; also the domestic servants, who really deserve your cordial support. Proposod by Mr. Moore, seconded by Mr. Grindley, and carried, That the report as read be adopted. Proposed by Mr. Facho, seconded by Mr. W. L. Bail jy, That a special vote of thanks be recorded to Mr. A. Christophers, the Honorary Treasurer, for the very elaborate report brought forward by him. A vote of thanks was recorded to the retiring Committee for their exertions during the past year. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. H. W. Robinson; VicePresident, Mr. W. Fraser •; Honorary Treasurer, Mr. A. Christophers ; Honorary Secretary, Mr. R. Barlow. The following gentlemen were elected a Committee of Management, viz, ; - Messrs.

M'Pherson,. Beck, Hazlett, Fache, Naylor, M'Connochie, Hueston, Smitham, Spensely, Grindley, Hastie, and H- C. Jones. Messrs. Cope and W. L. Bailey were elected Auditors. A vote of thanks to the Chairman concluded the proceedings. A special meeting of the Committee was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday Evening the 28th inst. Present Mr. Hazlett in the Chair, Mr. Christophers Honorary Treasurer Mr. Barlow, Secretary, and Messrs Jones. Grindley Fache, Hastie, Hueston and Beck. The minutes of the general meeting was read and c nlrmed. Proposed by Mr. Fache, seconded by Mr. Grindley,—That Messrs Hazlett, Christophers, and Beck be the Finance Committee for the ensuing 12 months. Carried. Proposed by Mr. Hastie, seconded by Mr. Beck,—That Messrs M'Pherson, Grindley, and Fache be the visiting Committee for the ensuing three months. Carried. Proposed by Mr. Hueston, —That the meetings of the Committee be monthly, and that they be held on the first Thursday in each month at 8 p.m. Seconded by Mr. Grindley and carried. Mr. Christopher proposed,—That the Secretary be requested to write to the Town Council, asking them for the use of the Council Chambers for the purpose of hold" ing meetings in connection with the Dun' stan District Hospital. Seconded by Mr Grindley and carried. The Secretary read a letter from the Secretary of the Queenstown Hospital, respect* ing the proposed reduction of the Governmeut Subsidy. Ordered to stand over till next meeting, the 6th February. Notice of motion by Mr. Beck, —That the salary of the Secretary be at the rate of £SO per annum. The usual vote to the Chair concluded the proceedings.
