THE GOLDFIELDS COMMISSION.
TO Tin- EDITOR OF THE DUN'S!AM TIMES. Sir,- I observe you have fiver a brief no+ice of thoaotion taken hy the Provincial Government in annointing a Commission of innnirv into the administration of the (midfields. Therearefewminerain Otago hntwill endorse all yon sav. A urea ter blunder eonld not have beenmadethantheanpointment. of a Commission composed entirely of naid officers of the Government to ait in '-uloment nnon theirown actions. I trust. Sir. tha* yon will take nn the matter in earnest, and show the “''fen of Tbmedin” that the inhabitants of the (midfields will not he tossed about like a tennis-ball. Thev stood by the Provincial Government in their hour of need, and they must not now he i-moved when their interest is to he jeopar dised by the action of the very men who did more than any others to sween Provincial institutions out of New Zealand altogether. There are m.anv man of juderment and ability among the miners, and why not have selected one or two from that heavily taxed body to have assisted in the examination of witnesses? The selection of such men would have given weight and value to the report, and been looked upon hy the miners as an earnest of better things in the goldfields management. I am, &c., A MINEE, Kawarau Gorge, ’l7th December, 1867.
