In the Court of Appeal, "Wellington, on Thursday, the 7th inst., judgment was given in the case " Cameron v. the 'Otago Daily Times' Company (Limited). Mr. Justice Johnson, in concluding his elaborate reasoning, said, notwithstanding the ability displayed by the Court below, and the reported opinion of Lord Chief Justice Cockburn, the Court was of opinion that the plaintiff in error was entitled to judgment. Judgment for the plaintiff in error. The usual meeting of the Alexandra Town Council took place in the Library building on Wednesday evening last. The Mayor and full Council were present. The minutes of previous meeting were read and confirmed A number of accounts were passed for payment. The Town Clerk was instructed to communicate with Messrs. Lloyd and Co., expres?ing a wish that the mail to and from Dunedin should go via Alexandra, Councillor Ratcliilc laid on the table a motion for the next meeting, "That the Town Clerk write to the Provincial Government, praying that the road on ilia west bank of the Molyneux be at bhco proceeded with." We are particularly requested by the Secretary of the Dunstan District Jockey Club to intimate that the /-■ nomination for the various handicaps i at the coming Punstan Races must be lodged with him on or before the 27th inst at 9 p.m., and to notify to members of Committee that a meeting will be held on that evening, at the Clyde Hotel, to transact business of importance. We have also been requested to call attention to the sale of the grand stand, booth, &c, which is advertised to take place at Dunstan Hotel at 3 o'clock in \\S afternoon of the same day. In our report of the proceedings of the Clyde Town Council, it will be seen that there is an intention to place in some conspicuous place in the Town Hall, a clock for public utility. So desirable an acquisition to the many conveniences the Council have furnished the Town, will no doubt be highly appreciated by the citizens. The drawing for the "Hospital Art Union takes place to morrow evening at 8 o'clock, at the Dunstan Hotel. We are informed that Mr. Speed, baker, of Alexandra, intends (if ho has not already commenced) to sell the 41b. loaf for Is. The high price that has hitherto been charged for bread has been a subject of general complaint, and We trust that Mr. t Speed will receive such support as will leave him no cause to regret taking a first step in the right direction.
