THE MAYORALTY OF CROMWELL.

TO THE EriTOR OF TIIF. DUXSTAX TIV.F.K. • Stk,- —During j'onr experience in life yon, no ilonbt, have often witnessed :i very reprehensible inconsistency in the actions of one man towards the other. Men who speak of each other in the most endearing terms to-day speak ill of each other on the morrow. Unless some substantial reason can he adduced for such change of feeling the changeahlencss of such men can only be considered extremely contemptible by every individual possessing a spark of honor in his constitution. "During the election of Mayor last year Mr. W. J. Barry had a host of admiring friends, and ho was returned by a very large majority. Since his election to the honorable position of occupying the civic chair he has discharged his duties in a very creditable manner, and. although he may have had his harmless faults, the ratepayers have every reason to he satisfied with him. . A fresh election for the present municipal year took place a few weeks since, and again Mr. Barry was returned by a large majority. Through some oversight or other Mr. Barry omitted to sign a declaration Cf his election within the five days required by the Municipal Act and it appears that Mr. Barry's election is now void in consequence of that omission. A fresh contest for the scat of honor will therefore soon take place, and it is rumored that fresh candidates will appear in the field. Mr. Barry will also be a candidate for the third time, and I understand he is to bo opposed with the most determined hostility. The change that has come over Mr. Barry's supporters is not to he easily accounted for, but at the hustings it is to be hoped some satisfactory reasons will he given. 1 am, &c, A LOVEE OF CONSISTENCY. Cromwell, 20th Aug., 18(57.
