ARRIVAL OF THE ENGLISH MAIL FOR JULY. VIA PANAMA.

The screw steamer Mataura, Captain G. C. E. Bird, Commander, arrived at Pc.namaonthe 4th -of June, after a splendid run from Wellington. Tho Mataura experienced heavy gales after bang two days out, during which the greater ipart of the stock was lost, and one casualty occurred. William Bedford, the ship's cook, was struck by a heavy sea, which broke his leg. After the leg was set, amputation was found necessary. The operation was successfully performed, but the man died from exhaustion. Tho weather gradually moderated until the date of arrival. The following is a summary of the news by mail : London, June 3. The' Queen has given £500,OOi), the accumulation of her privy purse allowance during her five years' retirement, to erect and endow a Convalescent Hospital, in connexion with the Royal Hospital of St. Bartholomew. The Princess of Wales is still confined to her couch. No attempt has yet been made to bend her kneo. The Princess Teck, known as the Princess Mary of Cambridge, has given birth to a daughter. The Funds, Railway Stocks, Colonial Government Securities, and all substantial investments have taken an upward spring, and money is cheaper than it has been since October, 1852. Ths cattle plague is virulent. The old organizations of the Privy Council Office to stamp it out have been started afresh. Meat is no dearer yet. The suspension of the Habeas Corpus Act in Ireland has been renewed. Great preparations are being made to entertain the Belgian Volunteers at Wimbledon. Dr. Hamilton, Bishop of Salisbury, in a visitation charge at Bridport, preached transubstantiation. Lord Shaftesbury will call the attention of the House of Lords to it. The Paris Exhibition is a great snecess. Ro port says that the Emperor of China intends to visit it. The Emperor Maximilian's wife, now in Europe, has gone mad. The Italian Government is raising a loan of £17,000,000 on Church property. Jefferson Davis was to be in London in July, and to proceed from thence to Paris. Charles Kean is seriously ill. On the ISth of May he acted as usual at the new Prince of Wales Theatre, Liverpool, but the next morning he was siezed with an affection of the heart. He is not expected to recover. The Special Commission for Cork terminated on the 31st of May. Kearns was sentenced to fifteeu years' penal servitude, Sweeney, Ahcr, Moriarty, Cummins, Lombard, and Downing to seven, and Coghlan and Geary to five years' penal servitude. 'The following has been the result of the Commission :—Five prisoners have been sentenced to execution, one to fifteen years, one to ten years' five to seven years', and three to five years penal servitude ; twenty, seven pleaded guilty, and were discharged on bail ; and nineteen have been remanded for trial at the assize. One of the latter is also charged with the murder of Shecdy, a policeman, on the night of the rising. Four have been acquitted, including j Colonel Condon and the alleged Head Centre O'Mahony. Both thcte prisoners were arrested immediately after their discharge, under the Habeas Corpus Suspension Act. Sir John Pakington has declared, after communicating , with the Home Office, that three batallions of j infantry, which were last year added to the Irish establishment, in consequence of Fenian disturbances, shall be at once withdrawn. The Austrian Government have ordered the i fortification of Vienna, and the works thereon have been commenced. The Emperor Francis Joseph was crowned King of Hungary, at Pcsth, on the Bth inst. All Powers having Diplomatic relations with Austria were represented, with the excep.ion of the United States. The Imperial Government of Russia ha 3 issued a paoclamation extending a general amnesty to Poles engaged in the last insurrection in Russian Poland. (BY ATLANTIC CABLE.) The Italian Parliament has rejected the plan •of the Minister of Finance for raising a loan based upon the proceeds of a Church property tax. Two Fenians from the United States have been arrested in Ireland. An English expedition has sailed for Africa in search of Dr. Livingstone. Lord Monck has been appointed Viceroy of the newly created dominion of Canada. Prussia refuses to comply with Napoleon's desire that it would not agree to arm the fortress of Radstadt. The trial of John H. H. Surratt has commenced. Twenty-nine buildings were destroyed by fire in Petroleum, in the centre of Pennsylvania, on the 4th inst. A grand military review took place in the Champs de Mars on the oth inst. Eighty men were under arms. The Czar, his sons, the King of Prussia, the Grand Duchess Maria, the Princess Royal of Prussia, Princess Victoria (g. and-daughter of the Queen), the Prince Imperial of France, and the brother of the Imperial Tycoon of Japan were present, and 500,000 spectators. At Ascot Races, on the 4th inst, for the Prince of Wales Stakes eight started. For the Royal Cup, Jasper was the winner. On the 6th, ten ran for the Ascot Gold Cup, which was won by Lecturer. A great fire occurred atTarifoille, Connecticut, yesterday. The Hartford Carpet Mills were entirely destroyed, and seven hundred persons were thrown of employment. The losses are over a million of dollars. President Johnson has returned to Washingion, and i« reported to ha quite indisposed.
