tile’ of the ‘ objects 'of this ' meeting. , THE FOLLOWING 13 A COPY OF THE 3IEILIKIAL. To His. Honor James Mariuidrew, , , i The memorial of the undersigned (being Vj..-' -; ,r - A-.vV .. • .. -- ' a Committee appointed at a public-meeting 1 of. the miners of the Nevis,) 'humbly sUfiWetUrsa That your memorialists, liavirg. tnincel that il sum of S2OOO has been® placed on the Estimates by your Honor’s Government, - for prospecting purposes ; would respectfully ask your Honor to have £SOO, or whftfcferiportion ’of the amonilt voted may be equitable, allotted to this dis trict, for the . purpose of having it thoroughly prospected. That your memorialists feel satisfied, no Goldfie’ds’ district in'the Province contains a greater amount fof auriferous ground unprospccted, as there are miles of terraces and flats, which the ' miners are confident contain gold, in payable quantities, but tlie expense of prospecting which, owing to the nature of the ground and the present limited-population, is too great for private enterprise. That your memorialists feel confident, were the resources of the Nevis developed by the judicious expenditure of such a sum as that now asked for (as it is notor ions that under all former administer ions, its existence Las been ignored to the serious disadvantage of the district) it is capable of supporting a large population fog years, and as a gold.producing district, would become second to lor-e in the Province. And relying on Your Honor’s sense of justice to grant the prayer of this their memoria'. Your memorialists will ever pray.
