A NTOrdinanco having been passed by -*•*■ the Provincial Council of Otago and assented to by the Superintendent in the name, of the Governor, which Ordinance purports to establish Courts of Summary Jurisdiction withiu the Province, and to empowcrSthe Superintendent to appoint Judges, called Provincial Wardens, to preside at such Courts : It is notified for Public Information, that the "Goldfields' Act, 18GG," expressly excludes the jurisdiction of any such Court within the Goldfields, in matters provided for under the Act. It is further notified, that the power to a;>poi r t Judges and Ifagistrates being a prerogative of the Crown, any person taking upon himself to act in such capacity under any other authority is guilty of a misdemeanor, and 'all decisions, judgments, "and awards given, and all acts •done by any sueh person in such capacity are absolutely null and void. The Public are therefore Cautioned -against resorting to or taking any proceedings in any such Court, or by any sueh Provincial Warden-; And the Police arc warned that no Summons, Writ, Warrant, or other Process issued from or by sueh Court or Provincial Warden has any authority, and that the law will not protect them in attempting to act upon or execute any such process. The Wardens horetofore~appointed and acting under the " Goldfields' Act," are the only persons authorised to hold Wardens' Courts, and will continue to hold them as hitherto. All Miners' Rights, Licenses, and Certificates of Trasfer must hereafter be sigred by a Warden, and all not so signed will be spurious. Any one except the Wardens, Clerk*, Receivers, and Bailiffs, appointel under the Goldfields' Act, who shall receive Fees or Monies, payable under the Act, will be proceeded against with the utmost rigor •of the Law.
