(from A CORKKSPONDEN'T.) A monster meeting was held on Monday evening to ascertain the feeling of the inhabitants in this locality with reference to the with-dnuval of the delegated powers from His Honor the Superintendent. Mr \V. F. Dixon being elected Chairman addressed the meeting in an appropriate speech, after which, a number of gentlemen animadverted at some length, both iti favor of the Provincial and General Govff meiits. Mr Hinchlille, in particular dwe ling upon the shameful manner in which this imme Hate neighbourhood had been neglected by nut granting a Post Oflice, after two years agitation, or in fact doing anything but receiving our money, while thousands of pounds were spent in Dunedin, putting up large buildings, and otherwise beautifying the city, very litt'e was spent up-country, where actually the most of it was derived, ho Mr Hinchlilfe was not against the Provincial Government,, quite the contrary, but lie thought they should spend a little more money up. on the Gold fields' requirements than had been clone. A great deal of discussion took place when it was resolved the meeting slioukl be adjounred until Thuivday evening. At the adjourned meeting, a memorial
to His Excellency the Governor was drawn up, and the following resolutions were unanimously carried.—-Proposed by Mr M'Morttn arid seconded by Mr' Collie, That it is the'opinion of this meeting the steps taken by the General Government in attempting to with-hold the delegated powers from His Honor the Superintendent, are calculated to do this province a great amount of injury, as we consider His Honor the Superintendent and his Council are the only powers for the proper government of the Gold fields.—Proposed ' by Mr M'Gee, seconded by Mr Broderick That this meeting pledges itself to sup. port His Honor the Superinteiideut and Provincial Council, coui mending the step taken by those honorable gentlemen in this important matter, and that His Excellency be memorialised to cancel the appointment of Mr B. Bradshaw, as Gi neral Government Agent lor the Goldfie ds. Proposed bv Mr W. Moore, seconded by Mr J Mellor, and carried,—That a memorial be'drawn up embodying the resolutions be sent to His Excellency the Gov ernor. . The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman for calling the meeting thus giving an , opportunity for the exji'essicn of public'opinion on the import; nt subject and for the abe manner he conducted the proceedings. Oa Thursday evening a public meeting was conven?d to elect a Local Committee of the Dunstan District Hospital, a number of gentlemen were elected ; they concuded to give a Bazaar in aid of the funds of that ics!itntion. I will notify you in clue time when the Bazaar will take place. I am happy to say the weather has at last broken, the district having been visited \vi'h a storm of snow, whereby the sup pi/ of the much needed element, water, is equa' to the demand, as the whole of inin ing operatio. s are confined to sluicing, the success of the D's rict depends entirely on the supp'y of w .ter, and it is to be hoped that we shall rot be put to such inconvenience and loss for some time to come for the want of it as has been ihe case during the past three or four months The appeal case that was heard at Clyde, before Judge Grey is, we believe to be taken before tjie Supreme Court, the liti- ■ gation attending this case has been very expensive and this last move will add considerably to the expense, but the question at issue is not only very important, but involves a valuable property.
