THE DELEGATED POWERS.
(TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUSSTAX TIMES.) Sir, — H is very seldom that I pay Civile a visit, but I luckily did so on Monday last, and was present at the meeting held there tha* evening, at the Victoria Theatre With the proceedings I must certainly say I thoroughly agreed, as I do not consider that the General Government have acted wisely in the mutter of the Delegated Powers ; nor do I think that the Provincial Government have acted very judiciously in the matter. 1 think it would have been better for the Superintendent to have resigned, and thus appealed to the country, the people of which would have unanimously re-elected hiui. i he course adopted by the Provincial Government miut be a very cxpersire cne, and 1 quite agree with Mr llazlctt, when he ashed Mr bhephcrd, who wai paying all the travelling expenses of himself, Mr l'owley, and Messrs Hughes and Brown I I shou'd
think that the pair-horse buggies and the hotel bills of these gout emeu must be very heavy,■especially when I find they indulge in champagne, which question Mr Shepherd should not have declined to answer. I for one, object to paying taxes for such an uncalled for and extravigant expenditure, and take this means of recording my protest through the columns of your valuable and independant paper. ] am, &c., ■Alex. Malcolm. Nevis, Mayl, ISG7.
