(Wc do not identify ourselves with the opiniom expiated br our correspondents.) A VOTE OF CENSURE. (TO THE EDITOR OF Tlir DCNSTAN TIMES.) Sir, —I see recorded in your paper in the report of the last meeting of the Municipal Council, that a vote of censure was passed upon the Mayor for an alleged delay in placing some correspondence trom His Honor the Superintendent, before the Council. As this vote was passed while our worthy Mayor was absent in Dunedin and ai\ you must be aware was worthily employed in pushing forward the interests of Cromwell, I think such conduct most reprehensible, and unworthily unbecoming the Councillors that were present at the meeting; Mr Editor, I detest the system of " stabbing a man in the dark " I the' Mayor had perhaps been a little remiss in not- laying this important correspondence before the Council (and which, I am assured was not the case, as the letter in question was handed to a councillor, although not ofHcially)tlie least that could have been doue in fairness to a public man was to have let him have the chance of defending him'elf. I hope that I shall ne-
ver again as a citizen of Cromwell be compelled to' put my pen to paper to point out such a glaring act of departure from all rulis of fair play on the part of men who ought to know better. The Mayor, Mr Barry has always worked hard for the interests of Cromwell, and I am sure he always will continue to do so, if his exertions are only appreciated. I am afraid that I have been trespassing upon your space, and therefore conclude, trusting that you will ever continue your course of giving free and impartial expression to public opinion. I am 4c. A CmrEJf. Cromwell, 22nd April 18G7.
